Mexico City`s Resilience Strategy

The 100 Resilient Cities initiative seeks 100 cities to be prepared to face the main environmental social and economic challenges of the 21st century. In 2013, Mexico City was chosen to participate in this initiative. In this context, the Resilience Strategy was developed, which aims to address some of the main resilience challenges from 5 work areas that drive the implementation of actions to increase the response and adaptation capacities of the city.

Develop and implement the Resilience Strategy for Mexico City, considering its social, economic, geographical context and its history of major transformations, to propose a series of actions that contribute to the city being better prepared to face impacts, and that not only the losses are mitigated, but also the response capacity and the recovery against risks and threats are improved.

Solution

The application of a methodology that included a mapping of actors, an inventory of actions, an analysis of expert perceptions and a participatory process to identify the main impacts and tensions that affect Mexico City and from these, define goals and actions that contribute to the construction of urban resilience.
