Regional Benefit-sharing Plan for the REDD+ Strategy in the Yucatan Peninsula
To consolidate a strategy that could enable the reduction of greenhouse emissions associated with deforestation and land-use changes in a just and equative manner, a region-wide Benefit Distribution Plan is needed.

Carry out a process to designan essential mechanism for the effective implementation of actions to reduceemissions from deforestation and forest degradation on a regional scale todesign an incentive mechanism that reduces the socio-economic pressure on theforests whilst also reducing social inequality.
Solution
A region-wide participatory and consultationprocess was held with representatives of the variety of stakeholders involvedin the Strategy. Those perspectives were integrated with national andinternational best practices to design a Benefits Distribution Plan thatchallenges unconformities and sources of inequality generated by similarprojects.
Outcome
The Plan will soon be published and put in placeby Yucatan Peninsula’s Regional Commission on Climate Change.
